schmiss (past tense of schmeißen, colloquial for 'to throw')

This is the simple past (Präteritum) of the strong verb 'werfen' (to throw). Note the vowel change from 'e' to 'a'.

Think of 'warf' sounding a bit like 'wharf', a place from which you might throw a fishing line into the water.
