((determiner)) + ((noun)) asks about possession. Whose car is parked outside?

((noun)) + whose + ((noun)) used as a relative pronoun. That's the girl whose brother is in my class.

Do not confuse with 'who's' (who is/who has).

From Old English 'hwæs', the genitive case of 'hwā' (who).

Remember that 'whose' has to do with ownership. If you can replace it with 'who is', you should use 'who's'.
