Verb

sich aus|wirken

to have an effect, to impact, to affect

Das Wetter wirkt sich auf meine Laune aus.

The weather affects my mood.

Wie wirkt sich das auf die Wirtschaft aus?

How does that affect the economy?

sich ((auf+4)) auswirken to have an effect on sth. The new law affects all citizens.

beeinflussen (to influence), einen Einfluss haben (to have an influence)

From 'aus-' (out) and 'wirken' (to work, act). Literally 'to work itself out' as an effect.

Imagine an action that 'works' (wirkt) its way 'out' (aus) to create an effect. It's reflexive ('sich'), so the effect happens 'to itself' or a situation.
