Adverb

freilich

of course, certainly, admittedly, however

Kommst du mit? Freilich!

Are you coming along? Of course!

Er ist klug, freilich etwas faul.

He is clever, admittedly a bit lazy.

as an answer: affirmative, agreeing Yes, of course. Are you coming? Of course!

as a concessive adverb: qualifying Admittedly, however. That is admittedly correct, but not the whole truth.

natürlich (naturally), selbstverständlich (of course), allerdings (however), zwar (admittedly)

From 'frei' (free) and the suffix '-lich'. The original meaning was 'freely spoken'.

Think of it as 'freely I admit...' which covers both 'of course' and 'admittedly'.
