Synonyms: sich ergötzen (to delight in), jubeln (to rejoice)

From Old High German 'frewen', related to 'froh' (happy, glad).

Use 'sich freuen auf' for future events (looking forward to) and 'sich freuen über' for present or past events (being happy about).
